Boswellia reduces swelling in irradiated brain tumour patients

by Mike Cavalli on January 17th, 2012

The latest study just published on the efficacy of Boswellia made in August 2011 has proven yet again of it's wortheness as a bona fida treatment in reducing inflammation.

Radiotherapy naturally produces edema (swelling) whilst a certain amount of swelling is beneficial, it can in cases of brain tumours prove dangerous as pressure may be exerted on the skull, in order to reduce swelling the patient is prescribed Dexamethasone, but the side effects of this drug are many and can be quite serious, the most common include nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, and appetite change including increased appetite followed by weight gain and most surprising Sodium retention leading to edema, the very thing the drug is supposed to avoid. Long term use can include mood swings, insomnia and anxiety attacks. Most disturbingly serious Dexamethasone side effects include adrenal insufficiency, steroid psychosis, peptic ulcer, congestive heart failure, and with long term use immunosuppression and osteoporosis. D, there are numerous drug interaction problems also.

In this study however 75% reduction in edema was found in 60% of the patients
receiving Boswellia and 26% in the placebo group. Boswellia also has the advantage that there are no known drug interactions, non addictive and no side effects, (perhaps a little nausea if you take to much to quickly).

With over whelming evidence proving the efficacy of Boswellia, one really does have to ask why is this non toxic, natural product taken much more seriously? You'll find the answer if you follow the money trail!
